Inside Analysis: The Graph Database and the RDF Database
RDF was designed to provide a common way to describe information so it can be read and understood by computer applications. By using XML, RDF information can easily be exchanged between different types of computers using different types of operating systems and application languages. By offering RDF as an export format, we facilitate subsequent use of our data for users and user groups with no knowledge of bibliographic formats.
The Linked Data Service is continually being developed further and optimised at technical, content-related and organisational levels. Some geographic entities have contained unchanged coordinates from the database GeoNames since the end of January Some bibliographic data contains class information from the thema book classification ; this has been the case since October The bibliographic data is currently provided in two profiles as RDF data :.

Data Dumps are a downloadable version of the data in Freebase. They constitute a snapshot of the data stored in Freebase and the Schema that structures it, and are provided under the same CC-BY license. If you’re writing your own code to parse the RDF dumps its often more efficient to read directly from GZip file rather than extracting the data first and then processing the uncompressed data.

Mozilla provides a number of other built-in datasources. Some of them are listed here with a few examples. They work very similarly to the bookmarks, although the fields will be different in each case. The history datasource provides access to the user’s history list which is the list of URLs the user has visited recently.

RDF is a standard model for data interchange on the Web. RDF has features that facilitate data merging even if the underlying schemas differ, and it specifically supports the evolution of schemas over time without requiring all the data consumers to be changed. Using this simple model, it allows structured and semi-structured data to be mixed, exposed, and shared across different applications.
This linking structure forms a directed, labeled graph, where the edges represent the named link between two resources, represented by the graph nodes. This graph view is the easiest possible mental model for RDF and is often used in easy-to-understand visual explanations. The RDF 1. This suite also includes an RDF Primer.
Other technologies, like OWL or SKOS , build on RDF and provide language for defining structured, Web-based ontologies which enable richer integration and interoperability of data among descriptive communities. Please, refer to a separate page listing some of those, as maintained by the community. That list also includes references to conference proceedings and article collections that might be of general interest. Written by Robin Bloor, posted on Inside Analysis. In a twist that has inevitable written all over it, the database industry has at last begun to take heed of the power of consumerization. The once mighty RDBMS is now obliged to make room for an emerging and increasingly important partner in the data center: the graph database. There are all kinds of graph databases and projects on the market right now, and most of them are purpose-built for a particular workload or platform.
Some technologies are not even databases at all, but rather graph analytics engines that pull data from any convenient source, even Hadoop, and analyze it in the graph engine. Twitter developed its graph database in house and released it as FlockDB to the open source community. Twitter designed it specifically to store relationships and activity between users.
So far, so good. However, it looks as though I have the choice of not stating that it is an E41, or of connecting the E41 to its string value via a property which is nowhere defined in the CRM:. The CRM definition gives strings as examples of E41, which implies that the first form is acceptable. However, my instinct says that it is wrong to finesse the fact that it is an E41 in this way.
Whichever approach is correct, I am struck by the absence of a primer which says, in straightforward terms, “this is how you encode CRM concepts in RDF”. If it exists and I have simply missed it, please point me in its direction and I will spread the word

Semantic Web technologies are emerging as an increasingly important approach to distribute and integrate scientific data. RDF is a core part of semantic web standards. As an extension of the existing World Wide Web , the semantic web attempts to make it easier for users to find, share, and combine information. PubChem users have frequently expressed interest in having a downloadable database. Together these tools enable the schema-less database access and query.
The RDF data on the PubChem FTP site is arranged in such a way that you only need to download the type of information in which you are interested, thus allowing you to avoid downloading parts of PubChem data you will not use. For example, if you are just interested in computed chemical properties, you only need to download PubChemRDF data in the compound descriptor directory.
